When I started my training I wanted to learn all I could about the history of Tae Kwon Do. Around the time I earned my yellow belt I began reading books about the history of Tae Kwon Do. Our style of martial arts, Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do was directly influenced by Master Gichin Funakoshi. My favorite books related to this topic were written by him. These books connect me with the traditional approach to martial arts training and allowed me to see the preservation of traditional training that our Chung Do Kwan organization has done so well. Below is the list of my recommended reading.
Karate-Do My Way of Life by Gichin Funakoshi
The Twenty Guiding Principles of Karate the Spiritual Legacy Of The Master By Gichin Funakoshi
The Essence of Karate by Gichin Funakoshi
Karate-Do Kyohan The Master Text by Gichin Funakoshi Translated by Tsutomu Ohshima
I hope you find these books a nice addition to your training!
